Dear Friends,
Over the years, as we have looked for projects aimed at helping poor and suffering people around the world, it has been a delight to discover several that were begun and continue to be led by friends who were students at Bethany. Three of these, St. Johns School in Tenkasi, India, Care Corner Orphanage in Chang Mai, Thailand, and the Transition Center in Uzbekistan, have been serving poor children and young men and women for many years.
Because of the good and necessary work they continue to do and their ongoing need for funds, rather than taken on new projects this coming year, we want to support each of these in their mission to serve, in Jesus’s name, those who otherwise might be without hope or help.
The goal of St. John’s School is to educate children of poor families in Tenkasi, India, and to bring them the message of hope and salvation in Jesus. The school has now expanded to include tuition centers where children of non-literate parents are being helped with their schoolwork and have the opportunity to hear the gospel.
Care Corner Orphanage in Chiang Mai, Thailand, founded and directed by Ricky and Lay Hwa Tan, is a home where orphaned and disadvantaged children, many of whom come from broken homes and families devastated by drug addiction and AIDS. The orphanage also provides a place of shelter for children in danger of being lured into sex trafficking and prostitution. At Care Corner they experience the love of Jesus. The goal of Care Corner is to provide Christian education, primary health care, and clear moral guidance. In addition, creating jobs and developing micro enterprises provide training for the children so they can support themselves wherever God calls them to serve.
Mike and Cindy Edson have been caring for abandoned children and young people in Uzbekistan, for some 25 years. The Transition Center that they began and oversee is home to young men and women with special needs and who have been rejected by their society. At the Transition Center these young men and women are cared for and receive vocational training, in order to support themselves. The mission of the Center is to proclaim God’s love. The beautiful artwork and crafts that the young adults create and are sold in local stores are a testimony to the healing power of God’s love in their lives.
Sincerely,
Alec D. Brooks
