Dear Friends,
One of the most severe humanitarian crises in the world is unfolding in Sudan. You might not have heard about it because it is getting very little attention. It began in April 2023 when rival factions started an all-out war and continues to this day with more than 12 million Sudanese forced from their homes. Many of these people have become refugees and have fled into Chad. Though Chad has welcomed them, their lives are extremely difficult. They are required to live in refugee camps in Eastern Chad, which is a remote, desert region.
Because of the remoteness of the camps and the arid climate, these refugees need assistance from the outside to survive. Medair, a Christian relief agency, is working to relieve suffering and bring hope to these incredibly resilient, but also incredibly unfortunate, people.
Medair is currently working in Dougui Refugee Camp providing nutrition services to children under five and to pregnant and lactating women. These services include screening for malnutrition, treating malnutrition, and helping to prevent malnutrition. Malnutrition occurs when someone doesn’t get enough food and/or doesn’t have enough variety in his or her diet. Unfortunately, for many in Dougui camp, malnutrition is caused by both factors.
To help those who are malnourished, Medair provides a special therapeutic, calorie-dense food and nutrition-related medical care. For those who aren’t currently malnourished, Medair provides additional food to help prevent malnutrition. Their hope is to expand nutrition services to other camps and also to add expanded health services to other camps in 2025.
Will you join us to help Medair care for some of the neediest people in the world?
Sincerely,
Alec Brooks
President
